Lingerie Fashion Week Review: FYI by Dani Read’s Muse of the Violets’ Collection

I was so, so excited that FYI by Dani Read was going to be showing at Lingerie Fashion Week again this season not only because I was excited to see her new collection, but also because Dani has such a deft touch when it comes to creating an atmosphere that shows off her work to its best advantage. This season’s ‘Muse of the Violets’ collection is not only full of individual pieces that I love, but the presentation reinforced the the themes of beauty and strength that are key to the FYI by Dany Read brand.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI think one part of this skill is her strong commitment to her inspiration: every season, Dani chooses a ‘muse’ of the collection, which drives the creation of the collection. This season’s muse was Renée Vivien, known as ‘The Muse of the Violets’, a fin-de-siécle lesbian poet of the French symbolist school. As an English major who focused on poetry in college, lingerie inspired by poetry has got to be one of my favorite things and it requires an ability to work more abstractly than many other choices of inspiration.   OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Renée Vivien was not a poet I knew much about before Dani told me about the inspiration for her collection, but she is clearly a fascinating individual. Her work is unabashedly sensual, a very appropriate fit for the designs with an erotic purpose. I’m definitely intrigued to learn more about this poet’s work and life.

The use of violet as the main color in the collection is an obvious nod to Vivien, but it also slightly softened the designs without removing their boldness. I love the continued use of zipper accents and the sporty motifs which are so on-trend right now. I think that the bra with the zippers and the shirt with the numbers on the back are two stand out pieces for me.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI can think of so many ways to accessorize the various pieces in the collection, I’m already excited for it to come out!

What do you think of this new FYI by Dani Read collection?

  1. Oooh, the lilac binding briefs look pretty. I own two of her binding briefs already though I’m disappointed that I don’t believe she makes the sashes longer as she goes up in size. So, when I wear my large binding briefs I can’t actually tie them around my waist like the models can because the sashes haven’t been lengthened as the briefs are sized larger. Disappointing.

    • Yes, lilac is such a lovely new color for her. Have you told her about the binding briefs? I’m sure she would love to hear your feedback!
