Lingerie Review: Fraulein Annie One Piece Swimsuit

I was absolutely smitten with Fraulein Annie‘s Ahoy Sailor swimwear the second I laid eyes upon it. I love anything sailor-inspired and the retro sailorette pattern just made my heart sing! My favorite was actually the retro bikini style, but I was crushed when I saw it was only available in bust sizes C+. There was an adorable triangle bikini style, but that’s a style that I’ve actually found does little for my very flat bust. I never even thought about the one piece because I’ve always thought a one piece would be unflattering on me.

Boy, was I wrong. I saw the one piece on sale on Modcloth (it’s still available on Hepburn & Leigh) & realized it was available in a 34B. I decided to chance it with the larger bust size because I wanted it too much not to.

I absolutely hate how “bikini season” is a made up concept that simply encourages women to nitpick and criticize their own bodies. At the same time, summer can be a time for increased body insecurity because of the more revealing clothes and lighter fabrics. I have been really struggling with my own body image, what with graduating and joining the “real world,” a schedule readjustment that has put my body a little out of whack. And naturally towards the end of the summer, these things all come to a head.

Enter my new Fraulein Annie swimsuit. I think I can say with confidence that this is my favorite swimsuit that I currently own and the one that makes me feel simply beautiful– the downward spiral that my body image was descending was instantly buoyed when I put on this gorgeous swimsuit. For the first time I would just like to run around everywhere in my swimsuit if I could. I practically prance the second I put it on. (Oh, and it’s reversible– twice the fun!)

One caveat: the cup size doesn’t fit perfectly– but that is to be expected as I am truly a 34A. I really am not upset about this at all, because the molded cups keep their shape well and the small pocket of air is just at the bottom of the cup, rather than an unsightly gape at the top. And this suit has entirely changed the way I think about one pieces– I am definitely going to consider them as real swimsuit possibilities despite my small chest.
